SYNOPSIS

A diary of an 8th grade boy, Pompey Briggs. “Tomorrow I shall enter the eighth grade of Holy Cross School, and I have just been thinking... Great men always keep diaries. Perhaps, that’s what makes them great. If I keep a diary, I, too, may become great. Who knows? Pompey Briggs” Everyone will love this book, but young men will especially enjoy it. It teaches many moral lessons. When Pompey does wrong, he owns up to it and confesses it.

This is a good classic book for young people in middle school. It gives a slice of life of youth in an earlier time with a main character who helps guys (and girls) see that some internal struggles that are part of growing up - don't change. This short diary-style story frames that struggle in a redemptive way.
